Welcome to the web site of the 5th International Conference on Industrial Applications of Adhesives 2028. The 5th International Conference on Industrial Applications of Adhesives 2028 will take place in Pousada Viana do Castelo (Portugal) 2-3 March 2028.

This conference is held every two years. The conference is chaired by Lucas F. M. da Silva and co-chaired by R. D. Adams (University of Bristol, UK), Chiaki Sato (Institute of Science Tokyo, Japan), Holger Fricke (Fraunhofer IFAM, Germany), Klaus Dilger (Technische Universität Braunschweig, Germany) and Nao Terasaki (AIST, Japan). The focus is on applications of adhesive bonding in the industry such as automotive, aeronautic, railway, marine, energy, electronics, etc. The idea is to bring together the adhesive makers and the adhesive users to exchange experiences and facilitate potential synergies and partnerships.

To register for the Conference, please fill in the electronic registration form. Each participant, including authors, is expected to pay the corresponding registration fee.

Early bird (until 3 December 2027) - 900 EUR
Online - Videoconference - 500 EUR

Standard (from 4 December 2027) - 1100 EUR
Online - Videoconference - 600 EUR

The conference fee includes the book of abstracts, lunches, conference dinner, coffee-breaks and reception first day.

The conference venue Pousada Viana do Castelo will be exclusively dedicated to the conference. A special rate of 450 euros for 3 nights 1-3 March 2028 is available for the participants in the registration site.

Cancellation Policy
In case of cancellation, a written notification should be sent to the conference chairman. If it is received prior to January 8th, 2028, registration fees will be refunded with a deduction of €75. No refund can be made after January 8th, 2028.

Proceedings / publications

Conference proceedings with the accepted abstracts will be available at the registration.

Full papers will be published in special issues of The Journal of Adhesion (Taylor & Francis), Discover Mechanical Engineering (Springer) and in a book of the book series Proceedings in Engineering Mechanics - Research, Technology and Education (SPRINGER) (provided they meet the quality standards).

The full papers should be sent to lucas@fe.up.pt before the 2th of March 2028. The text should be in single column format and double line spacing.

How to manage an interdisciplinary joining technology in a multi-product portfolio enterprise like Bosch


Dr. Patrick Stihler
(Bosch, Germany)


Dr. Patrick Stihler joined the Bosch Group in 1999 as research engineer in the corporate research sector for advanced production technologies. In 2004, additionally he took over the responsibility of the sectoral Bosch-internal analytics lab for polymers and the domain-specific internal standardization. In 2007, the role as innovation manager for topics in adhesive bonding technology was assigned. In 2012, he added the role as senior expert for adhesive bonding technology in the corporate research sector. He has the responsibility of the Bosch Center of Competence Adhesives Technology which is a Bosch-wide knowledge-oriented organizational unit responsible for the adhesive bonding technology and polymer-based function material processing as a business-relevant topic area.

Conference venue: Pousada Viana do Castelo
The Pousada Viana do Castelo is located atop the Monte de Santa Luzia, in Viana do Castelo. Lofty and elegant, it further enhances the beauty of the city of Viana do Castelo. It has one of the most breathtaking views in Portugal, overlooking the mountain, the city, the Lima River, the Atlantic Ocean and the iconic Santa Luzia Basilica, which, located a few hundred metres up on the slope, frames and fills the landscape and the view.
